微软将在本月底发布Windows Server 2008 RC1。9月24日，微软则推出了Windows Server 2008第一个预览版RC0，版本号为6001.16659.070916-1443。并且，微软还公布了Windows Server 2008的配置需求。

    Windows Server 2008是微软新一代Windows Server系统，将内建虚拟化技术，支持无图形界面的命令行式安装“Server Core”，提供全新的服务器管理器、IIS 7.0、PowerShell命令行工具等诸多新特性。

    此次发布的Windows Server 2008 RC0有标准版、企业版、数据中心版、安腾版等四个版本，前三个版本还分32-bit和64-bit两种。

    此外，一同推出的还有Windows Web Server 2008 RC0、Windows Media Service for Windows Server 2008 RC0等服务应用，以及系统技术总览、安装向导等文档。

    目前，微软下载中心已提供Windows Server 2008 RC0预览版下载，大家都可以免费体验30天，输入认证密钥则可以使用到2008年4月7日。

微软已经在下载中心给出了Windows Server 2008 Beta 3的全系列版本下载(之前的不完整,都是VHD),包含如下版本:

    Windows Web Server 2008 RC0
    Windows Server 2008 RC0 Enterprise
    Windows Server 2008 RC0 Standard Edition
    Windows Server 2008 RC0 Datacenter
    Windows Server 2008 RC0 for Itanium-based Systems
